So, Are You an Incubator?

The last few days, I've accomplished quite a lot. I'm very pleased that I was able to actually get some things done, and really get moving again.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way. Some days, I just can't seem to get my brain shifted out of neutral.

Last month, most of my days were 'neutral' days. How I managed to make any money, I'm not quite sure.

However, I read an article the other day that said many people who are thought to procrastinate are actually 'incubators.'

They incubate their ideas while it looks to others like they aren't doing anything. Then, when what they need to do gets sorted out in their mind, they spring into action and get a lot done in a short amount of time - and it's always, always quality stuff.

I'm an incubator.

I've done things that way my entire life, but I never knew what to call it. I've always just thought I was a procrastinator, or that I might be lazy - but people who fall into those categories just don't get things done. They try to get out of work, and when they do complete something it's usually not that good, because they didn't put much effort into it. That's not me. I always put effort into what I do.

The article made me feel better. Much better.

It's always nice to put a name to some quirk you've got!

Being an incubator sounds more effective in the long run than rushing into every idea that pops into your head. I get so excited of new things that I don't take the time to incubate the idea. So sometimes it's good, other times it is just a waste of my valuable time.

I agree. It doesn't sound like such a bad thing. As long as something gets done eventually.

Well, now I have a name for it. I love researching, so I feel sometimes like I don't actually accomplish anything, but then suddenly, I'll get into writing mode and pump out a bunch of articles on my prior research.

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one. I thought for a while that maybe I was just too weird! lol
