Are you a sunny person or a cloudy person? It seems like everyone has his (or her) preference.
My parents, for example, are sunny people. When it's sunny and warm, they're happy. When it's cloudy, they seem like different people - dreary, fussy, and depressed. Sleepy, too. They gripe about the cold, as well.
They're relocating in the spring to the desert southwest. While I'll miss them terribly, I think they'll ultimately be happier there. I don't like to see them unhappy.
I'm just the opposite of them on the weather front. I could pretty much do with cloudy, rainy, cool, foggy weather. Always. My mother says she doesn't know where I get it from.
I live in Florida right now, and I equate sun with heat, humidity, and sticky air that's completely uncomfortable for a large majority of the year. I've heard it called 'air you can wear,' and that's not far from the truth.
I'll be moving to the Pacific Northwest in June, and I can't wait. Bring on the clouds and the rain and the cool weather. Bring on 75 to 80 degrees with low humidity for a high in August, with lows in the 50s and low 60s. Bring on more than a foot of rain in December and January - each, not total.
I work a lot better when it's cloudy and 'dreary' outside. I do my best work with cool temperatures and gray skies. It's cozy, thinking weather. Perfect for writing.
And you? What kind of weather makes you truly joyful?
